Tanzanite jewelry - bracelets, earrings, necklaces, pendants and rings
Tanzanite jewelry whether it be bracelets, earrings, necklaces, pendants or rings is a very pretty choice of jewelry for those of us who love the color purple. Here's a little bit about it for any of you who may not know too much about it. It's a blue/violet variety of the mineral zoisite. It was first discovered in Tanzania in 1967. Naturally formed Tanzanite is extremely rare and is still found only in the Mererani Hills in northern Tanzania.
Colors can appear as burgundy, sapphire blue or violet depending on crystal orientation. Different lighting can make the colors appear different. Blue colors appear more so under fluorescent light and violet hues under incandescent lighting. In it's rough state it's usually reddish brown. Heating that has occurred either underground naturally or above ground by man removes the brown or burgundy color which produces a stronger purplish-blue color and makes the stone "dichroic" which means it only reflects the colors blue and violet.
Tanzanite should never be placed in an ultrasonic bath for cleaning or have any contact with acids. You can gently clean it in warm, soapy water.
